December Projects

These trees were homework. The patterns were sent home and completed by each student and their family. Then each of them wrote a store from the perspective of the Christmas Tree. The stories came out quite cute!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Twas the day before Christmas Break and all through the school
Not a student was behaving, the broke every rule;
The stockings were all hung by the cubbies with care,
Hoping their teacher would soon be there.

The children were squirming all bored in their seats,
While Tyrell danced around the room, and kicked up his feet;
And Mickey in her scarf, and Trent in his cap,
And Marshal asleep, taking a nap.

When out in the hall there arose such a clatter,
Julio sprang up to see what was the matter.
Away to the windows Amber flew like a flash
Crystal tore open the blinds and knocked over the plants!

Skylar and Stephen wanted to know,
While Marcello and Colin ran to and fro,
When what to Zakhari’s wondering eyes should appear,
But a mean, mean teacher, we all thought to fear.

She came closer and traveled much faster,
Benny knew in a moment it must be Miss Jaster!
More rapid than cheetahs she snarled as she came
And whistled and shouted and called us by name:

Now Cruz! Now Josh! Now Kayla and Raquel!
Shush Joseph! Shush Sebastian! Quiet Zachery and Kevin!
Sit in your seat! Get out of the hall!
Now be quiet! Be Quiet! Be Quiet All!

Miss Jaster was mad, we didn’t know why.
She lifted her hands and let out a sigh,
She said we were too noisy, she said in a rush.
She made us sit down and told us to hush.

And then in a twinkling she let out a smile
She opened her bag and dumped out a pile.
The presents were scattered all over the ground.
We had the coolest teacher around!

She was dressed all in black from her scarf to her shoes,
We got sat quietly waiting to hear her good news.
A bundle of gifts she picked up from the floor.
She gave us each one, but we wanted some more.

Her eyes how they twinkled! Her smile how merry!
Her cheeks were like roses, her nose like a cherry!
Her amused little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And she let us outside to play in the snow!

We ran and we rolled, we tumbled and threw,
The snow was so fresh and practically new!
She got hit in the face and once in her toe,
Then she got us all back by throwing some snow.

She was funny and smiled, and wrote silly poems,
And we learned a lot from many different tomes.
A wink of her eye and a twist of her head
Soon gave us to know we had nothing to dread.

She spoke not a word, and we went straight to work.
She filled all our stockings; then turned with a jerk.
Laughing and smiling she looked at us small and tall
And told us we’d been the best class of all;

She sprang to her desk, to her class gave a grin,
"I can’t wait till next year when I’ll see you again!
I hope you enjoy my poem remake!
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good break!"

See you next year!!!!!!!!!! :)
~Love,
Miss Jaster

What we've been up to..

We have a PUBLISHED writer in our class!! We write our opinions on the question of the week frequently, and send them into Weekly Reader, and one of the letters by a student in our class was chosen and published in the Weekly Reader! Thousands of kids and teachers all over the US read her words! How cool is that!? WAY TO GO AMBER!!

We've been studying mimicry & camouflage in science and made these cool posters. Can you spot the hidden butterflies? There are 3 on each poster!

We're also working hard in accelerated math. We're competing on teams to see who can get the most points by winter break! The winners will get a prize! Looks like those "Decimal Demons" are in the lead! (Note, there are 2 teams that are NOT in the picture...so you might not see your child's name up there. Ask them how many points they've got!)

Check out our Mastery Club board. Look at all those facts mastered!! (Each star is a fact mastered & memorized). Want to know specifics? Check out the Mastery Club link on the right to see what the questions are! This goes until the end of the year, so encourage your child to master more! The mastery club link can help them study these!

Don't forget!! The annual Hulet Christmas Concert is on Thursday December 4th @ 6:30 at the Performing Arts Center at the High School. Mrs. Self has planned a fantastic show as always!
Because of the concert there will be no homework on Thursday! :) See you there!

Also the PTSA is having a Food Drive from now until December 17th. If you are able, please send non-perishable food items for the food drive. Thanks for all you do!

WW II Links

We've been learning a little about World War II in class, because the books we're reading:
"Snow Treasure" & "Frederich" (in reading 2) are set during this time period.

Remember this picture we talked about in class? Tell your parent's about it!

I know a lot of you are curious about this time period, and there just isn't a whole lot of time in class to teach about it, so here are some links with more information!

Mini Movie: Twilight Inspired

This adaption of Twilight was created by Kayla, Amber, & Raquel.
They drew the pictures, animated them with stop motion photo animation, and added the sound.

Twilight characters are the property of Stephanie Meyer & Summit Entertainment.
This is a video adaption by a few young fans- no infringement intended. :)

Mini Movie: Fight to the Death

This movie was created by Tyrell & Zachery using stop motion photo animation.
They wrote, drew, animated, and added the sound themselves.

A wrestling match plus a food fight, see what happens when these two scenarios are combined!

Mini Movie: Alien Invasion

This movie was created by Josh & Joseph using stop motion photography.
They wrote, animated (drew & moved) ,and added the sound themselves.

Aliens decide to invade earth but end up in an epic battle against some local monsters and the armies of the world. Watch to see who wins!

Pig House Project

The entire fourth grade read "Three Little Cyberpigs" this week in class. We had a homework project to build a house out of alternative materials. This is what our class came up with.

Trent built his house out of egg cartons, brads, & shelf liners.
It includes a ladder made of popsicle sticks. What creative materials!

Joseph used cardboard, foam, & glue to make his home.
He also has a dinosaur security system!!

Josh's house is made of wood which he painted and stapled together.
His house has real shingle son top and a security system to keep wolves away.
See the little keypad by the door?

Sebastian made his house out of cardboard and
decorated it with red tissue paper. I love that double opening doorway!

Marcello's home is cardboard, covered with paper.
Check out those piggies inside the house!
The doorknob is a teeny tiny bead.

Kayla's cardboard house is covered with cotton ball snow and spaghetti icicles!
She used beans for rocks in her yard. It has an invisible electric fence to thwart wolves.

Raquel made her house out of cardboard which she painted.
The roof is also cardboard covered with paper. Her doorknob is a small screw!
I love how her house has that little addition in the back.

Julio taped together video game & dvd boxes to create his house.
It has voice activated security which smashes unwanted visitors with a large hammer.

Zachery used lego blocks to build his home.
It's waterproof and sturdy to keep those pigs dry and safe from wolf invasions.

Tyrell built his home out of a Coca-Cola box.
It has an escape hatch in the back and
is equipped with lasers on the roof to keep those wolves at bay!

Skylar built this lovely log cabin home out of cardboard, paper, and a toilet paper tube!
Any piggy would be proud to live here!

Colin built this awesome tepee for his pig to live in. It's made of leather, just like real tepees!!

Zakhari made this house from wood, screws, & a drill.
It's very sturdy, so no wolves can blow it down!

Amber's house is made of cardboard and tape. It's decorated with tape and the door delivers a powerful electric shock to wolves!
